Fishing in Bristol Bay

Bristol Bay, Alaska is home to The Naknek River, the main source of freshwater in the area and ultimately flows into Kvichak Bay. The Kvichak River is populated with millions of salmon for anglers target during their fishing trip.

Known For

Known as the “Red Salmon Capital of the World”! You can also head over to The Nushagak River where it boasts the world’s largest run of wild Chinook Salmon. Silver Salmon fishing on the Nushagak River is also very popular.
Fishing Licenses and Regulations

A sport fishing permit is required for all anglers between the ages of 16 and 60 years old. King Salmon stamps are also required for those fishing in Bristol Bay.

Applications for these permits can take a while, up to six weeks, so please make sure to check with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game online or you can process them in person. To process your application in person you will need to go to the headquarters located in Juneau, AK.
Types of Fishing

Alaska fly fishing is fantastic on The Naknek River, The Kvichak River, and the Nushagak River.

For a total all-inclusive fishing experience try one of the many Alaska fishing lodges available in the Bristol Bay area. Like a lot of places in Alaska to reach one of these Alaska fishing lodges will most likely require hoping abord floatplane.
Best Seasons to Fish

Salmon fishing season typically starts around late June and ends in August. Starting in August is when we would recommend booking a fishing trip with one of the many fishing charters in Bristol Bay for trout.
